Prof. JĆ¼rgen Schmidhuberis considered one of the āFathers of Deep Learningā. He co-invented LSTM for recurrent neural networks and has a clear vision on how machine learning will be revolutionised in the near future. His research group focuses on fundamental research in machine learning and AI, but also covers innovative application areas, e.g. in the framework of medical technology. Prof. Schmidhubers work in machine learning has revolutionized a variety of fields and is now in use at Google, Microsoft, IBM, Baidu, and many other companies. He holds professorships at USI and at KAUST in Saudi Arabia, where he is director of the AI Initiative. Prof. He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts and received the 2013 Helmholtz Award of the International Neural Networks Society and the 2016 Neural Networks Pioneer Award of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society in 2016.
